Week 0 Notes

(Schools/Coaches Items of Concern in RED)

Field Markings

  • The restraining line that is to be 2 yards from the sidelines is impossible in “some” situations. Some multi-use fields that have Field Turf will not have them. It is still the responsibility of game management to keep spectators at least 2 yards off the field. Officials are to continue to notify Pat Backus, Paul Caldera or Paul Wyllie if there are field issues. We will contact the schools.
  • The Santa Ana Bowl, Veteran Stadium, Saddleback College and Cal State Fullerton have college hash marks with high school marks every 5 yard line. Be sure you are using the high school hash marks.
  • Some fields (like the Santa Ana Bowl) have huge paintings in the middle of the field that can make measurements nearly impossible in that area. Take note before your game and review with your crew how you will handle measurements.

Uniforms

  • Jerseys must reach the top of the pants.
  • All adornments must be taken off. This was covered at the Coach’s Meeting on August 26th.

Halftime

  • It is up to the Head Coach to have his team on the field for the 3 minute warm-up period. Officials are to be sure that half-time is complete prior to “re-setting” the clock to 3:00. Captains are to be on the field 3 minutes prior to the end of half-time. This allows the captains to participate in the warm-up period.

Fouls on Scoring Plays

  • Unsportsmanlike fouls are enforced from the succeeding spot only.
  • Only one live ball foul treated as a live ball foul may be enforced on the kickoff.
    • Scoring team elects to enforce penalty on the kickoff. The opponents then foul during the extra point. The scoring team may elect to replay the down with the penalty enforcement. If the penalty on the touchdown was a 5 or 10 yard penalty and the foul on the extra point was a 15 yard penalty, the scoring team may elect to enforce only the 15 yard penalty on the kick-off.
    • There are no kick-offs in overtime. The only spot of enforcement is the try.
  • All dead ball fouls are to be enforced in the order of occurrence.

Penalty Enforcement Mechanics

  • Go by the book. Line Judge walks with the umpire and the Linesman waits at enforcement spot.

  • Summer exam answers are posted. “Both OK” means both True & False are acceptable.
  • You are to print your own “Rules 5, 6, 7” and bring it to the September 5th meeting.
