Week 5 Notes
(School/Coach Items Are In Red)
Feedback
- Continue to let us know if there is
something we are missing. There are times when concerns are isolated
incidents. We contact the officials for the game in question and get to the
core of the situation. We address “all” emails from schools. The results may
not make it to the Weekly Notes unless we feel it is more than an isolated
problem.
- I will be asking some schools for a
copy of their game even though the coach may not request that it be
reviewed. We give observations to officials and some feel that they are
working correctly. We need to show each crew what they
are doing. If you would like to volunteer to send a recording of your game,
contact me directly. Look up Paul Caldera on The Arbiter for my information.
This helps everyone!
Coach’s Box
- The Coach’s Box is for “3” coaches.
The area is 6 feet from the sidelines. This means “out of bounds” not in the
field of play. Officials: Remember that 3 coaches
ARE allowed in this area.
Professionalism
- Please think about what you are
saying & how it comes across. When an official yells, “You coach and we’ll
officiate” to the sidelines, the official loses the respect of everyone who
hears it.
- Veteran Officials: Newer
officials get better when you help them. Remember, you may have to work with
that person again.
- When an observer asks questions
about your game or offers his opinion, be respectful. The observers are not
marking you down so they can make the playoff list. The idea is to make you
better. You could learn something if you have an open mind. This is why we
are asking schools for a recording of your games.
Translations
- When a coach says, “We have
played with this all year”, “The officials never told us that before” or
“This is the first time we ever heard of that” usually means “Okay, you
caught us”. All Orange County high schools receive the Weekly Notes.
Understand that a good coach may not know of a rebel player who is trying to
“bend the rules”. Use common sense.
